“Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”-Eckhart Tolle
This is the time of year we vow to ourselves we are going to be better this year. We are going to finally get into the best shape of our lives, land that promotion we’ve been wanting, or all the other goals that have been plucking at our heart strings. While I love to create lists and goals to achieve as well, I started doing something different on NYE. As important as it is to plan for a better future it’s as equally important to reflect on your past. Each year I make a list of what didn’t serve me or wasn’t in line with who I was that year. This could be things like negative self-talk, not honoring my boundaries, negative people in my life, or letting fear get in the way of something I wanted to achieve. Whatever is on my list I try to keep it more intrinsic than, for example, binge watching Jack Ryan or forgetting to shave my arm pits. After I’ve come up with a list I buy a balloon and a paint marker and write one word that is associated with each statement I wrote down. Later that night, after I’ve dressed up and poured a glass of champagne, I go outside and let go of all the past negativity and disheartenment and watch it fly away into the abyss. Here’s to living a more intentional life. Happy twenty nineteen everyone!
